Two Split Hopper Barges Sold for Continued Operations on the Danube
S&P
A successful transaction has been completed for the sale of two split hopper barges to a new owner based in Central Europe. The vessels, both long-serving assets in the inland maritime sector, will continue their operational careers on the Danube River.
The barges, built in the 1970s and designed for dredging and aggregate transport activities, have been acquired as part of an international agreement concluded between the parties in late 2025. Together, the vessels provide substantial carrying capacity and are well suited for ongoing infrastructure and river maintenance projects.
Following the completion of the transfer, the barges will remain active in commercial service across the Danube region, supporting inland waterway operations and development projects throughout Central Europe.
The transaction reflects the continued demand for reliable inland shipping equipment and highlights the important role of the Danube corridor in regional transport and maritime infrastructure activities.
