Jack-Up Unit Towed from UK to Netherlands for Offshore Support Operations

Towage
A modern self-elevating jack-up unit was recently towed from the United Kingdom to the Netherlands in support of ongoing offshore and nearshore infrastructure projects. The operation was completed safely and efficiently using a compact but capable shoalbuster tug specifically suited to coastal towage and shallow-water operations.

The jack-up, constructed in 2020, measures approximately 36.5 metres in length with a 20-metre beam and is equipped with four spud legs designed for stable offshore positioning in water depths of up to 30 metres. With a variable load capacity of 600 tonnes and robust jacking capabilities, the unit is well-suited for geotechnical, survey and marine construction support work.

For the tow, a 26-metre shoalbuster tug with a 30-tonne bollard pull was deployed. Powered by twin Caterpillar main engines delivering more than 2,200 bhp, the tug provided reliable towing performance throughout the North Sea transit. Its towing arrangement included heavy-duty winches and extended tow-wire capacity, enabling safe handling in varying weather and sea conditions.

The relocation reflects continued demand for versatile offshore support equipment across Europe, where jack-up platforms remain an essential asset for coastal engineering, renewable energy developments and subsea investigation campaigns.
